New York Marriott East Side first hotel to receive Netflix

Marriott Hotels and Netflix have announced a new partnership to provide guests staying at select Marriott Hotels even more entertainment options while away from home. Beginning with select hotels, including the New York Marriott East Side, guests will be able to log-in to their own Netflix accounts directly via their in-room TVs and access their personalised content in the relaxing confines of their hotel.

Marriott Hotels said in announcing the partnership that more guests are preferring to access streamed content rather than rely on traditional programming when away from home for business or leisure. The partnership with Netflix provides a great opportunity for both companies, as it allows Marriott Hotels to allow their guests a more personalised stay, Netflix can tap into a new market as guests can opt to create a new account when staying in Marriott properties who are connected to the program.

The New York Marriott East Side is the first property in New York to enjoy Netflix powered entertainment, although it won’t be long until all New York Marriott properties are expected to be connected by the end of 2016.

The design on the Netflix app has been done so with hotel guests at the centre of its design, meaning that guests will only have to log-in to their account once per stay and will remain active for the duration of their time at the hotel.

What does this mean for Australians travelling to New York

One of the great advantage of Netflix is that you can tailor your account to the type of entertainment that each account holder enjoys. This is particularly helpful for parents who are travelling with children, and won’t be as reliant on the in-room movies to keep the kids entertained – particularly on cold wintery days which can be hard for the most experienced adult traveller – especially during the depth of northern winter in late January or February. It will also mean cutting down on the amount of movies and TV shows that parents will have to load on to their tablets.

One of the biggest advantages for kids of all ages will be being able to enjoy a movie or show at a time which is convenient to you, especially after spending a day pounding the New York sidewalks visiting some of the most amazing museums and attractions in the world, being able to come back to your room and chill out watching a couple of episodes from your favourite TV show before showering and heading out to a great New York restaurant for dinner or heading to the Theatre District to see something on Broadway.
